Trucking Accident Injures Man

A man was taken via Life Flight Helicpoter to Erlanger Hospital this morning after he suffered extensive internal injuries in a truck accident on I-75 North, according to the Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tom Layne.

The name of the man has not yet been released. The driver crashed his 2005 Ford Focus into the back of a big tractor-trailer that was hauling a backhoe about a mile south of Ooltewah exit.

"He apparently was unable to see or avoid the tractor-trailer for some reason," Sgt. Layne said, explaining that investigators have not determined the cause of the accident.
After hitting the truck, the driver of the Focus skidded about 30 feet over to the side of the road. He was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated, Sgt. Layne said.

According to Sgt. Layne, the driver remains in critical condition.

Collision with Rig Kills Man

A Sparta man died on Tuesday morning just after his pickup truck collided with a truck on McMinnville Highway in White County.

Malcolm D. Price, 72, was killed when his 2006 Chevy pickup crossed the center line and struck the left side of a 1009 freightliner traveling the opposite direction according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Report.

The driver of the larger truck, Stanley Hurd, 44, of Sparta, was not injured. Alcohol was determined not to be involved in the accident, and no charges were filed. Both men were wearing safety belts.
